Douglas (Doug) McPherson is an experienced attorney and business advisor. Following graduation from Stanford Law School where he served on the Stanford Law Review, he worked for a global law firm (HellerEhrman LLP) before joining Citysearch, an internet media company, as General Counsel and Vice President of Business Development. He negotiated and managed the acquisition of several companies including Match.com and Ticketmaster Online and guided the company through several financing rounds and its initial public offering.

He then joined Idealab, a leading creator and operator of renewable energy and technology companies, as General Counsel and Vice President, Corporate Development where he assisted renewable energy, digital media, robotics, software, and hardware companies from inception to financing to sale or initial public offering. He led numerous acquisitions and sales of assets and companies in his 13 years there, including sales of companies to First Solar, Google, eBay, IAC, iRobot, and others. He assisted management teams in product development, go-to-market strategy, hiring and other areas and also served on the boards of directors of numerous companies at all stages of development, including directorships with eSolar, Inc. (solar thermal), Energy Innovations, Inc. (solar concentrator), and Aptera Motors (electric vehicles).

After Idealab, as General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer at OpenX Software Ltd., he led the sale of certain assets and acquisition of several companies for OpenX Software Ltd. He participated in all aspects of strategy development and execution. He was also involved in corporate communications strategy and positioning, and served as company spokesperson on television, in print, and in digital media. He also managed the recruiting, learning and development, people, real estate, and office operations teams during a period of rapid global expansion.

In early 2022, Doug led the first-ever sale of all the available U.S. urban forest carbon credits to a single buyer. The portfolio included credits from 13 planting and preservation projects, and sold for a price approximately 4 times higher than last reported forest credits.

At Otium Business Consulting, he brings his experience as a pragmatic advisor and attorney to suppliers of carbon offsets in the voluntary carbon market.
